I think it depends whether you have young children. Sheep dog always have a tendency on herding young children. I am not saying you don't need to be careful with golden retriever.

But they tends to be more easy going in personality. My son has once put his hand into our goldie's mouth and pull the tongue out. The poor dog just tolerate him. (may be I am lucky that time)
