u plug headphone and speaker together ?!
actually headphone and speaker cant plug together
if not will come out weird sound
u can only plug one once a time...

how come your laptop will come out sound together ?!
maybe your sound driver install not correctly...
try to uninstall and find new driver to install it...

are u sure u install the right driver?
if is the right driver try go to control panel to setting the sound..

the reason is vista format to xp problems...
u must find the right driver to install it...
too many driver is suitable for xp...
try to find other audio driver to install it...

then can download from HP website..
normally wont get back this kind problems...
