For my personal exprience, Lion does run faster than Snow Leopard.  The next version of Mac OS X will be called Mountain Lion not Mountain Bear.  There is not much of difference between Mountain Lion and Lion.  Mountain Lion only offers some improvements on a few built-in applications.  The fundamental architecture between Lion and Mountain Lion is the same.
