Liverpool’s fourth pre-season friendly ended in stalemate in Berlin as Hertha held the Reds to a 0-0 draw.
The match was the most competitive of pre-season so far, with a crowd of just over 50,000 at the Oympic Stadium in Germany.
The main highlight of the match saw Andriy Voronin have his penalty saved after he had been brought down in the box early in the second half. Voronin, who reportedly is attracting interest from Stuttgart, played the full 90 minutes and was a lively figure and almost scored after his missed penalty following good work by young Dani Pacheco.
Javier Mascherano also played the full match before he departs to join up with Argentina for the Olympics. The Reds’ other Olympic-bound players, Ryan Babel and Lucas Leiva, were absent from the squad.
Pre-season will now take a step-up a little with the players return to Melwood and being joined the Spanish quartet before heading to Villareal next week.
