First separate them into 2 piles and then take the heavier pile and sepate them into another 2 piles ,then take out the heavier piles and weigh any 2 of them.  If the balanc is balanced the the remaining one will be the heavier ball, an if the balance is not balanced then you know which one is the heavier.
