Adebayor is BBC African Footballer of Year
Emmanuel Adebayor has been awarded the 2007 BBC African Player of the Year award.
Earning almost 42 per cent of the fans vote, the Togolese striker beat Chelsea's Didier Drogba into second place. Last year's winner Michael Essien finished third with Freddie Kanoute and Samuel Eto'o completing the list.
The 23-year-old has led the title-chasing Gunners' line in spectacular fashion, notching 13 league goals, including a first hat-trick at Emirates Stadium.
However Adebayor suffered international heartache after Togo failed to reach this years African Cup of Nations - somewhat of a surprise after the country made a first appearance in the 2006 World Cup.
The shortlist of players was drawn up by football experts from every country in Africa, based on players' individuality, skill, technical ability, teamwork, consistency and fair play.
