Adebayor plays down title talk after derby victory
No one was talking about Arsenal winning title during the summer. As far as Emmanuel Adebayor is concerned, there is no need to start now.
The Togolese striker headed the equaliser at White Hart Lane on Saturday and rounded off a stirring comeback against Tottenham with a sumptuous volley in stoppage time.
Arsenal's 3-1 win over their local rivals saw them extend their unbeaten start to the season and climb to the summit of the Premier League. Arsène Wenger's side have confounded their pre-season doubters but Adebayor refuses to get carried away.
"We are very happy and we are very confident at the moment, but it is now about keeping it going," said Adebayor. "We came here to take the three points and we did that.
"I scored an amazing goal and I'm very happy for that but the most important thing is getting the points from Spurs. Every game we play they call it a test. We feel that as well, but the most important thing is taking it one game at a time.
"We are showing maturity now, every player knows how to play for 90 minutes. We showed that maturity today. But we don't want to speak about the title, we just want to keep on going.
"We are learning and we are playing good football. If we carry on like that we'll see where we are at the end of the season." |
