《舊約聖經》中《撒母耳記上》曾記載過大衛殺死一個名叫歌利亞 (Goliath)的巨人，他的身高是六肘零一虎口(six cubits and a span)。《聖經》中肘的算法有幾種，最短的一種是一尺半為一肘，六肘便等於九尺。六肘零一虎口高，歌利亞至少有三米多高了！但這卻不是《聖經》中關於巨人唯一的記載。公仔箱論壇; i: m7 R- ?4 ^! w0 x+ j# ^* v5 m# c

同樣是《舊約聖經》中的《民數記》則記載摩西帶猶太人出埃及之後，曾派人到迦南地探路，瞭解當地的情況。探子們回報說：
