Gallas wins O2 Player of the Month award - 4 Dec 2007
One player ran away with our November Player of the Month poll - William Gallas. The Club captain scooped the award for the first time, winning with a staggering 57.2 per cent of the vote.
Last month's winner Cesc Fabregas came in second and Alex Hleb third. Gallas played in four games during November, scoring two crucial goals. His first against Manchester United preserved the Gunners' table-topping status, and his second, against Wigan, typified his attitude. Bounding out from the back he eventually nodded home from a tight angle to break the deadlock.
The Frenchman is clearly held in similar esteem with his team-mates - Kolo Toure drawing comparisons with previous captains like Patrick Vieira and Tony Adams. Fabregas also enjoyed a stellar month, scoring against Manchester United and continuing his rise as one of the league's best midfielders. But he had to settle for second place in our poll. Alex Hleb finished third after another sublime month.
Competition winner Martha Everitt won the chance to present William with his award before the home fixture against Manchester United.
"Not only did Gallas score a vital goal against Man Utd and the opener against Wigan to ensure we remained top of the table," said Martha. "But he's also been a fantastic leader, strong defensively, and has proven why Arsene Wenger chose him as captain at the beginning of the season." |
