這件事發生在19日上午，這對情侶開車來到動物收容所Walton County Animal Shelter，其中女方帶著黑狗媽媽下車，翻動了門口的捐贈物資，隨後男方拿著一個紙箱放在門口，兩人便開車離去。由於當天是星期日，收容所並沒有對外開放，但仍有工作人員值班照顧動物，他們從窗戶瞥見黑狗媽媽的身影，開門就看到11隻幼犬，趕緊調監視器想看看發生什麼事。

警方Walton County Sheriff's Office公布監視器畫面並說，若是照顧寵物有困難，應該在收容所開放時間尋求協助，任意拋棄動物的行為是違法的，另外這12隻狗狗被丟在寒冷的天氣中，「無論牠們過去曾遭受什麼對待，牠們現在被安置在動物收容所Alaqua Animal Refuge是安全的，將找中途家庭照顧並準備送養。」
根據當地法律，棄養動物最高可罰美金5000元（約新台幣13萬8千元），並可能同時被處以監禁。

Abandoned Puppies Get Second Chance
Alaqua believes that one of the greatest gifts we can give is love. We also believe that every animal deserves a second chance at life, and we are continually helping to rescue animals in need and provide them care--no matter what time of year or what time of day. Abandonment and cruelty doesn't stop just because of the holidays. Alaqua doesn’t stop either, especially when there are no other options available for animals in need.
Just this week, we were contacted by Walton County Animal Services, Florida who found a box of 11 puppies and their momma abandoned outside their door. These precious little lab mixes were left in the cold with no food or shelter. Seeing the momma dog’s reaction that she too was being abandoned and left behind is utterly heartbreaking. Luckily, a staff member who was working while the shelter was closed saw the momma dog peering through the windows and brought the family inside to safety.
The puppies and their mom are now being cared for by Alaqua and are safe and sound. They were assessed by our medical team and given proper food, shelter, and treatments. The momma dog is super protective of her babies and will not leave their side. In our care, they will all learn what it feels like to be loved and taken care of.
We applaud the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida for taking this situation seriously and trying to find the people that illegally dumped this family at the shelter. There is no excuse for abandonment or cruelty to animals. But Alaqua will continue to be a resource for our community and for animals who need us and have no voice. This what we do—rescue, save, rehabilitate, heal, love.
