I also think it's to target the 師奶 audience since healing hands was pretty appealing to them back then. I think he also brings in the air of professionalism to the cast because of this role in healing hands. Doesn't hurt but the script here isn't that great for him. I don't see where this is going yet; there's still a lot to develop for his character.
