Atlético Madrid 4-0 Málaga

Atletico Madrid capped a memorable few days by thrashing sorry Malaga, whose first game back in the top flight turned out to be one to forgetfollowing the 4-0 result.Freshfrom their 4-0 demolition of Schalke on Wednesday, a victory which putAtletico into the Champions League group stages for the first time in11 years, the Rojiblancos were back on the goal trail in front of aspoilt Vicente Calderon crowd.
The game was as good as over byhalf-time with Atletico racing into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals fromcentre-back John Heitinga, making his league debut following his summertransfer from Ajax, and a brace from striker Diego Forlan.
FlorentSinama-Pongolle then became the second summer signing to net forAtletico as he completed the scoring 10 minutes from time.
JavierAguirre's side dominated virtually from the first whistle and Malagagoalkeeper Francesc Arnau had to make his first stop of what would be abusy night for him when he superbly palmed away Simao's sixth-minutefree-kick.
Arnau could do nothing to prevent Atletico taking the lead in the 26th minute though as the hosts enjoyed a slice of luck.
AMariano Pernia corner from the right found its way through to TomasUjfalusi and the Czech Republic international's shot deflected off theback of Heitinga before nestling in the Malaga net.
Atletico laidsiege to the visitors goal after that and Forlan chipped a shot againsta post before the Uruguayan ace made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.
Manichedid superbly to keep possession following a lung-bursting chargeforward, and when the ball eventually found its way to Forlan on theright of the area, the former Villarreal hitman rifled home a low shotpast Arnau at his near post.
Rampant Atletico's third goal arrived in the 44th minute from the penalty spot after Heitinga had been dragged down at a corner.
Forlan made no mistake with his spot-kick, slotting home off the inside of Arnau's right-hand post.
The second half was a similar story and it is only a surprise that Atletico were kept to four goals.
SergioAguero sent one effort flying over from inside the area, while MaxiRodriguez completely mis-kicked when well placed and Pernia's low shotwas tipped behind by Arnau.
At the other end, Malaga brieflythreatened when Sergio Duda's curling left-footed free-kick flew justwide of goal with Gregory Coupet beaten, but otherwise the action waslargely in front of Arnau's goal.
Atletico made it 4-0 in theclosing stages when Raul Garcia and Luis Garcia combined to putsubstitute Sinama Pongolle through inside the area, and the Frenchmangot on the scoresheet after unleashing an unstoppable left-footed shotinto the near top corner.
By that stage Arnau was probably readyto go home but the veteran former Barcelona custodian still had work todo and he denied Luis Garcia and Maniche with a remarkable double savein the closing stages as impressive Atletico sought more goals.
