Alonso: Juve are a special team

Xabi Alonso has confirmed there is a good chance he could swap Liverpool for Juventus this summer, and has welcomed the interest shown in him by the Italian giants.
The Spain international, currently with his country for the Euro 2008 finals, has been a big success since joining Liverpool in 2004 but a move to join his former team-mate Mohamed Sissoko in Turin is now a distinct possibility.
It appears as though Rafa Benitez’s pursuit of Gareth Barry is paving the way for a former favourite to leave Anfield as further talks are planned between Reds officials and their Italian counterparts over the possible sale of Alonso, with attempts to agree on a transfer fee so far proving difficult.
Reports in Italy claim that Chelsea are also showing an interest in the prodigious passer but, in his first public response to Juve’s interest, it is talk of a switch to Serie A that has seemingly excited Alonso.
“I know that there has already been contact with both Liverpool and my agent,” said Alonso to Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Moreover, I can say that I am very proud to interest a strong and historic club like Juve.
“Del Piero, Nedved and Trezeguet were great champions who had the courage to go in Serie B [following the club's demotion for match fixing] and that means something. Juve is a really special team.
“After four years of playing in La Liga and four in England, playing in Italy would be a little completion of my career.”
