《獄中花》描述出生成長於朝鮮時代監獄中的天才少女「玉女」，在當時的律師制度外知部的殘酷統治之下，幫助困苦的黎民百姓獲得新生的故事。
1日尼爾森收視調查公布MBC第一集的收視率達到17.3%。而《獄中花》之所以引發關注，是因為執導的導演李丙勳和編劇崔完圭作家，兩人在合作《許浚》後，睽違15年再次攜手打造的史劇名作。
