I don’t think I should comment on my own appointment, the decision of which rests with the Council.公仔箱論壇: w3 Y7 W& c" O/ A9 L) @- x$ Z
I would like to thank my family and my many friends and colleagues for their support, encouragement and trust in the past 10 months. It has not been an easy period of time, and I want to thank wholeheartedly every single one of them. As I have said many times before, the issue of the appointment of the PVC is really not about me. It is about the threats to the autonomy, values and freedoms that have made HKU a world class, vibrant university, an institution that we love and are proud of.
I hope all those who care about HKU, especially our alumni who have come together and bravely voiced their gravest concerns, would not be disappointed or discouraged. It is not about winning or losing. It is about challenges to our values and beliefs, our perseverance and our endurance. The appointment process has come to an end, but the decision of the Council shows that we still have a lot of work to do to preserve academic freedom and protect the autonomy of the University.+ C; Y6 A3 X3 R+ V
