原作松本清張「夜光的階梯」是一個人類主題的故事，講述的是從一個打工美容師躍身成為美容界寵兒的青年的野心。電視劇的舞台背景是美容界，飾演為了實現自己的野心而不惜一切手段的無情美容師佐山道夫的，是從嚴肅到喜劇都能輕鬆自如演繹的實力派演員藤木直人。2007年秋季播出的SP「點和線」以及2009 年2月播出的松本清張誕生100週年特別企劃「疑惑」中大展身手的竹山洋的劇本，描述了集野心和美貌於一體的青年美容師的人生起落。3 ]& N9 q' R" [' E& D2 v1 D& x' j$ z
