Football Spy: Manchester City move for Barcelona's Dos Santos
By Alan Nixon 26/05/2008
Manchester City will today have talks with Barcelona about signing brilliant Mexican star Giovanni Dos Santos on loan.
City supremo Thaksin Shinawatra has sent trusted agent Pini Zahavi to Barca to speak to president Joao Laporta about the 19-year-old starlet.
Shinawatra's advisers have been pushing for a move to land £8million-rated Dos Santos for two months - and now they are going to make a formal offer.
Dos Santos has stalled on signing a new deal at the Nou Camp because he feels his first-team chances are limited despite a couple of end-of-season appearances, including a hat-trick show in the last game.
Zahavi is playing a big part in Shinawatra's deals at the moment, also masterminding the move for CSKA Moscow's £18million-rated Brazilian striker Jo, who flew in for talks 48 hours ago.
Zahavi will also give Shinawatra an update on the price and availablility of Barcelona veteran Ronaldinho.
It is possible that City will be able to take him on the cheap and possibly even in a double deal with Dos Santos.
City are about to part company with Sven Goran Eriksson, who is reported to have agreed a two-year deal to become boss of Mexico.
