Jamie Carragher believes young starlet Jack Hobbs would make a good impression in the first team should he get his chance in tonight's Carling Cup clash with Cardiff City.
The 19-year-old reserve team captain is in Rafael Benitez's squad for tonight's match, and Carragher admits he has been impressed with the former Lincoln City defender during the training sessions at Melwood.
"Jack has done very well since he started training with the first team about six weeks ago and he wouldn't let anyone down if he played against Cardiff or anyone else," enthused Carragher.
"He has been one of the stalwarts of the youth team, captain of the reserve team and now the next stage is for him to see if he can make the breakthrough into the first team.
"You never really know what a player is going to be like until he has been given a chance and been tested at the top level but Jack should be confident because he is a good player – now he just has to go and prove it.
"It would be a good experience for Jack to come up against the likes of Robbie and Hasselbaink because they are both strikers with lots of experience and as a young defender you will learn loads of lessons from them.
"He is a big, strong lad who is good in the air but he can also play a bit because I know he's been playing in midfield for the reserves. I'm sure if he's selected he will do well."
