I believe his day of reckoning probably would not be in his life time. There are still many documents to be declassified before there is solid evidence to proceed with the indictment, if any. American public are quite naive and gullible, eager to believe whatever said by their politicians. Like Reagan whose hands were dripping with innocent blood, still is one of the most popular presidents. Dissident voices are few in the American media and have low chance of being heard. I still vividly remember the popular support enjoyed by George W Bush when he prepared the invasion of Iraq. Although there were a few who questioned the justification for the war, it remained a hardly noticeable minority.作者: aa00 時間: 2011-7-6 12:10 PM

Although it looks the same, there are actually differences. There are system in place to declassify documents after a time, usually 25 years in US. The parties having interests in the documents can extend the time before declassification. However, individuals or organizations can apply for the declassification through Mandatory Declassification Review or for Freedom of Information Act. A decision would be made by higher authority. Of course, there are ways to get around this like partially revealing the documents and yet keeping the names and dates or other sensitive data hidden but it is still within the confines of the law. The Chinese government can put a lid on scandals using heavy-handed means like imprisonment based on trumped-up charges or direct threats, oblivion of the rule of law.
